How to Apply

   
 

Thank you for your interest in the School of Information Management and Systems. We welcome applications from highly qualified students who are committed to creating a new understanding of the use and management of information through the merger to technology and social science. Successful applicants typically combine strong academic credentials and work experience with computer competency and an understanding of the information field. The School accepts applications from graduates of accredited colleges and universities in virtually all areas of study: liberal arts, social sciences, physical sciences, engineering, computer science and others.

Applications forms are available in early September of the year prior to the fall term for which one is applying. SIMS does not accept applications for the spring term. The next opportunity to apply is fall 2002.

The online application for fall 2002 is now available.

Application Instructions

A complete application includes:

  • Application fee
  • Application (Form A, B, & C) (D is optional) (E is required of International applicants). Please use the online application.
  • Statement of Purpose (Form F)
  • Three letters of recommendation in sealed envelopes (Form G)
  • Computer Competency Statement (All master's applicants)
  • Current resume
  • Transcripts in sealed envelopes.
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores
  • TOEFL scores (All International students, unless you have completed a degree from an English speaking country.)

SIMS encourages all applicants to (1) apply online, (2) print out the required forms from the PDF application, and (3) send all supporting materials in one package. Please wait until you have gathered all necessary documents to complete your application before submitting them. Send all materials to us in one package; this will guarantee that no documents are lost or missing. Please do not submit incomplete applications. The only exceptions are those forms filled out online and test scores, which are sent directly to SIMS by the testing centers. The department and school codes are listed in the FAQ section. If you have obtained your scores, prior to sending in the application package, please list them in Form B or attach a photocopy of your score report.

Applicants must submit all application materials no later than January 5th of the year in which they are applying. Letters of recommendation, transcripts, and examination results should be submitted by the same deadline. SIMS encourages all applicants to apply early. Admission decisions are usually made by the beginning of April.
