EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR JUDGING HOME PAGES
Developed by LIS 190 class -- 21 February 1996

The following criteria will be used to judge student Home Pages submitted for review as Assignment 2

CONTENT

suitable for intended purpose of the page
appropriate for educational course work
internally unified

ORGANIZATION

evidence of an introductory guide to contents, e.g. table of contents, index or guide
consistent use of headings, titles, section dividers
evidence that text has been divided or chunked

NAVIGATION

evidence of consistent navigation devices (icons, buttons, etc) directing user forward, backward and home
use of links that actually take user to intended location (within documents or to external sites)
use of clear and concise annotations to describe each link for the user
use of a consistent footer to get user from bottom of a page to other locations or back to home

DESIGN FACTORS

consistent format and appearance to all pages
clean and readable appearance to all pages by use of: margin alignment, centering, chunking of text, attention to sufficient amount of "white" space
careful use of colors and backgrounds so that text remains readable; contrast is retained
use of graphical images that enhances readability and appearance without detracting from content
