The Medical Dictation and Transcription Program
(MDTP)

The Medical Dictation & Transcription Program (MDTP) helps to save lives. Doctors record patient information, transcriptionists use MDTP to type that information into reports, and then doctors sign those reports using MDTP.

MDTP improves the dictation and transcription process by:
• providing for web accessible electronic storage and retrieval of transcribed dictations
• enabling physicians to electronically authenticate (sign) transcribed reports
• reducing transcriptionist keystrokes by integrating with enterprise dictation systems
• empowering physicians to directly edit reports sent to them for signatures
• reducing transcriptionist keystrokes by providing a word expansion feature
• enabling health information managers to better monitor transcriptionist workload, transcription turnaround time, and delinquent reports

Second place winner: SIMS masters project competition James R. Chen Award!
