Developing
standards for structuring, indexing
and sharing environmental information is essential to enhance
our ability to address global issues in environmental policy
and human health. These are very complex problems, but a great
deal of work has already been done by information scientists,
biologists, environmental researchers, software engineers and
many others.
The
intent of this site is to promote greater communication among
all of these groups, to support their ability to build on and
share their existing accomplishments.
A
History of Information Management
Informatics is a very broad discipline whose meaning is somewhat
contested. This history page by Michael Buckland offers some
perspective.
