What is different about Berkeley?

As one of the top research universities in the world, Berkeley values the creation and dissemination of knowledge. Our faculty is actively engaged in research on issues surrounding information management, and seeks to bring that perspective to the classroom. As a result, our courses address the most topical and compelling issues, instead of simply regenerating knowledge from textbooks.

As a professional school, SIMS seeks to advance the art and science of information management and systems through scholarly, theoretical, empirical, and applied research activities and educational programs. We seek to balance academic and technical excellence, and bridge theory and practice. The impact of our activities on society and on the future careers of our students is of prime concern.

Since Berkeley is a public university, we have an obligation to serve the State of California and its citizens. This is reflected in many ways, including a commitment to diversity reflecting the diversity of the State, to quality teaching, and to serving the public good through professional activities.
