How do we view information systems?

   
 

Increasingly, organizational missions are undertaken by a combination of automated processes and human-centered activities. Thus, we interpret the 'information systems' in the title of our school as sociotechnical: partly technological and partly social. A major challenge is to figure out what is best accomplished by humans, organizations, or political constructs, what is best accomplished by technological information systems, and to design natural and effective interfaces and interaction between the two.
