Why is SIMS interdisciplinary? |
|||
|
If we define 'discipline' as a "scholarly activity seeking a fundamental understanding of some area of thought, behavior, or natural phenomenon," then information management and systems is not a discipline, but rather the application of all relevant disciplinary perspectives to the opportunities and challenges of information management and information systems. The SIMS faculty consists of scholars with a career-long interest in information management, and others who bring to SIMS an in-depth grounding in other highly relevant disciplines. Currently, our faculty members have backgrounds in computer science, information studies, economics, business, law, political science, and information technology in regional economies--all with a focus on the opportunities and challenges of information management. Our students also have varied backgrounds, and enjoy ready access to seminars and courses in other schools and colleges at Berkeley.
